ARAL Language File

v0.002 · 2026-07-17 · conforms to GALF v0.008

Primitive -> Transform -> Repeat ...and emergence begins. Select visual Language Seeds that generate excitement and invite continuation; reduce each to primitives, simple rules and parameters; rebuild, mutate and evolve them into new work. Serve as a GAAD re-test bed: a fast environment for producing complex form from simple rules across one Stage or one hundred Stages, selecting parents click-click-click, generating children through multiple depths, preserving every parameter, mutation and decision. Begin with reconnection, not imitation: the reference case is the author's own thirty-year investigation into how much complexity can emerge from very little.

16 of 18 sections carry content. Required: 11 of 11. The rest state unknown, which is the point: an empty section is an answer, silence is not.

roleGAAD's language for art: complex visual form evolved from simple computational rules
reference caseMiles Walker's own generative work, 1993-2024
resolution axisEmergence (PROPOSED - ARAL's interpretation of the experimental GALF concept, see GALF s9; not yet ratified)
key distinction

ARAL is not a catalogue of artists. It is a personal, curated experimental language of Language Seeds - selected works reduced to their rules, then mutated and evolved. Inheritance of process, never reproduction.

Terminology

terminology
itemtermmeaning
1Language SeedA selected artwork treated as a starting point: reduced to primitives, rules and parameters, then mutated and evolved.
2FrameOne cube subtracted from another so only the edges remain - the 2024 discovery, ARAL's signature primitive (planned).
3EmergenceComplexity arising from simple rules repeated - the quality ARAL selects for.
4Gravity (F034)World property. ON draws the stage and grounds forms; OFF removes the stage and composes freely around the world origin.
5Orientation-free solidA primitive with no up (cube, sphere) - the only shapes permitted in free space.
6BehaviourAn animated work read as a moving parameter space - each frame one valid state, emergence unfolding.

itemdetail
textWorld (gravity state) -> Plan (seed + recorded decisions) -> Stage (one generation) -> Objects (primitive instances)
noteSeed-level. Inherited from the proven PRAL prototype structure; ARAL-specific levels (e.g. a Seed register above Plan) are future work.

Relationships

REQUIRED · PRESENT
itemtypemeaning
1derived_from_seedA plan descends from a declared Language Seed.
2parent_of / child_ofLineage between generations - the replayable evolutionary record.
3composed_withObjects sharing a stage; clearance governed by the Collisions/Harmony setting.
4migrated_fromInheritance across languages at a split (gravity and sphere migrated from the PRAL line, D154).

note

Declared at language level from the 1993-2024 practice. The prototype currently composes cube and sphere with position, size and gravity (F034); subtract arrives with the frame primitive; recurse is future work.

definitionA Language Seed is a selected artwork treated as a starting point, not an object of admiration.
decisive testCan I imagine taking its rules, mutating them and developing my own version?
bias

Computational geometry, recursion, repetition, transformation, subdivision, controlled randomness, emergence. Systems where the algorithm remains visible - where the viewer could almost reconstruct the rules from the outcome.

first seed

Thesis section 2.4, 3D insertions (Digital Evolutions, 1994) - ARAL's first Language Seed build: some classic GAAD 1994, with rebirth injections. Direction set by Miles, 12 Jul 2026. The wider thesis outputs and the 2024 frame experiments remain the seed reservoir. See gaad_msc_contents_v0_001 (Spec/).

gravityF034 is ARAL's: gravity ON draws the stage and grounds the forms; OFF removes the stage and composes freely around the world origin (offset_z_m gene recorded for exact replay).
inheritanceMutation honours the parent's recorded gravity; the grammar preserves every parameter, mutation and decision - decisions become data.

v0.002 17 Jul 2026

v0.002 (17 Jul 2026): the file takes the GALF spine - all 18 sections present by code, each carrying content or stating unknown (D186, Miles's word). Nothing invented, nothing lost: content moved to the section that owns it, anything needing a ruling carried whole under 'unshelved'. conforms_to corrected to GALF v0.008, the contract that requires this spine and carries the base relationship vocabulary. Previously GALF v0.007.
